We base the majority of our walking expeditions, especially our Gold Expeditions and Open walking expeditions from our base camp in Mid Wales, having our own dedicated section on Erwbarfe Campsite , a friendly, family run site in the heart of the Cambrian Mountains.
Details of how to get to our base camp are on the how to find us page.
The site is some 12 miles inland from Aberystwyth in the scenic Rheidol Valley and has excellent facilities, including hot showers, toilets, a washing and drying area and a small shop, stocked with drinks, snacks and some other essentials.
We have an excellent working relationship with the owners, Bryn & Priscilla, who thoroughly enjoy the presence of the groups, even the many friendly caravan owners miss us when we aren't in residence!
The group camping area is perfectly sited next to Bryn’s field, where participants can see lambs, chickens and red kites soaring overhead and unspoilt views over the Rheidol Valley and the hillsides beyond.
The on site facilities include an indoor classroom and social area, ensuring that groups have somewhere to undertake training, or simply sit down and get to know each other better, as well as a stunning new washroom and most importantly of all, excellent hot showers!
Staff stay on site during the whole expedition, so are on hand from the moment of arrival, through to departure.
Participants are able to leave any spare items at camp whilst out on expedition, which are secured safely until the end. All the expeditions begin and end at base camp, therefore, efficient participants can return in time for a well deserved shower and an ice cream before making their way home.
For any parents wishing to stay in the area during the expedition, there is plenty of accommodation within the locality, where you can enjoy the captivating Cambrian Mountains, including the Devils Bridge waterfalls , Nant yr Arian Visitor Centre , the Élan Valley , the Hafod Estate , or simply experience the amazing Cwmystwyth Valley.
There is also a wooden wigwam on site, for those lucky enough to find availability!
